Guida rapida all’evocazione di un Dio Antico – Three from Outside

The album Guida rapida all’evocazione di un Dio Antico is inspired by H. P. Lovecraft’s fictional book Necronomicon and by themes of inexplicable, shapeless horror. These occult themes, which resonate with me aesthetically, are translated into a four-part graphic score for improvisation. Its written indications are never musical in nature and become increasingly absurd and evocative as the piece progresses, ending with an empty-page epilogue. In this way, the score becomes an evocative trigger for collective improvisation: it establishes the atmosphere of the piece, while its shape emerges differently with each iteration, according to the ensemble’s composition. These recordings employ a shared electroacoustic network that combines live-processed EWI, piano, and digital instruments.

Gianmarco Canato is an Italian bassoonist, electroacoustic musician, and artistic researcher. His activities range from classical chamber music to electroacoustic works, free improvisation and interdisciplinary multimedia works. He is currently a PhD student at the associated Conservatories of Alessandria and Como, where he investigates strategies for free improvisation in experimental music theatre. As an instrumentalist, he played in international orchestras (Berner Symphonieorchester, Musikkollegium Winterthur) and festivals (Forum Kammermusik, Meiringen Musikfestwoche). As a composer and an improviser, he performed at SpazioMusica 2023 (Cagliari), Parade Electronique 2025 (Milan), and at the deSingel (“Convergence” Conference 2026, Royal Conservatoire Antwerp).

Alessandro Cicchelli is an electroacoustic composer and a pianist with a classical and jazz education. He graduated with a Master’s Degree in Electroacoustic Music from the Conservatory of Como in 2023, studying with Walter Prati, Alessio Sabella, Sandro Mungianu. acousmatic pieces to electroacoustic improvisation and techno music.

Mattia Olgiati is an Italian composer and performer working in contemporary and electroacoustic music. He studied composition and electronic music at the Conservatory of Como, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Electronic Music with highest honours in 2023. His work explores the relationship between acoustic instruments, electronics and sound transformation. His music has been presented at festivals and venues in Italy and across Europe, and in 2022 one of his acousmatic works was selected for the XXIII CIM (Colloqui di Informatica Musicale).
